Community Catalyst, Roy Smith, who runs the Seasonally Effected cultural open mic event in Rochester, put forward this exciting idea in Round 3.
Real Medway & Swale aims to involve storytellers, artists and game makers in the creation of augmented reality games across Medway and Swale. The games will be playable on both Android and iOS phones and will encourage players to explore the towns through a different lens.
Using smartphones, players will reveal stories and images hidden in the real world, drawing them into adventures that take place on and offline. Over the course of the project, small groups will work together to plan, create and test six adventures, learning about augmented reality and examining its potential to connect digital and real world art forms and environments; celebrating creative people and places across the area.
Roy says: “I hope this project will capture imaginations and be an opportunity to exhibit creativity across these towns, in what is a rapidly growing and evolving medium.”
Two workshops to explain more about augmented reality and how people can get involved have been organised, see details below.
