Now Showing: A Call for Medway and Swale promoters

Cover

Ideas Test is based in Medway and Swale. It’s job is to bring art in all its forms out of traditional places like theatres to local people in familiar spaces. This has been street dance in a shopping centre and puppets in a pub; and there are lots of ways for Medway residents to get involved for free! The team are currently seeking volunteers to host live events in their communities. To make this possible Ideas Test have got together with Applause Rural Touring. They are also based locally and have a list of brilliant professional artists who are available during Autumn and equipped to perform in a huge range of rooms. It could be a library or a youth club, a swimming pool or sports hall. Applause have supported really successful events previously in Strood Library, Allhallows Village Hall and Woodlands School in Gillingham.

Of course they appreciate that it might seem like a daunting task to run events like this! To make it less risky Ideas Test are offering to pay the costs of the first performance booked with Applause. The promoting group would sell tickets for their production and keep the “box office takings” giving the group a pot to use again for another Applause event in the future. They have also asked Bethan Tomlinson, General Manager of Strangeface Theatre Company, to talk to any new potential promoters. As she has worked with both Applause and Ideas Test before she can take groups though the process step by step to see what might work well in each place. Bethan can visit groups with copies of the Applause Autumn menu of work, do give her a call on 07590 962602 with any queries. The menu is also available online at
