Nicola Flower’s ‘Blankets’ project has gone very well, and taken on a life of its own!
Having reached the first stage of completion, the textile pieces and a short film are being exhibited at
the Herbert Read Gallery, Canterbury, as part of the ‘ Digital Encounters’ textiles exhibition, open to the public until Friday, 25th July.
Nicola had the opportunity to speak about the project at a symposium within the exhibition, and this week took her visually impaired group along to the gallery so they could experience the thrill of their work being shown.
It’s hoped that the exhibition can be brought to Sittingbourne Library once it’s finished at Canterbury, and that the project as a whole will continue with more volunteers becoming involved. If you would like to help, please contact Nicola via email firstname.lastname@example.org.
Four touching films have been made, featuring the participants own life stories which they shared while they worked on the textiles. One is shown above, and you can find the others on John Dargan’s Youtube stream.
