Ideas Test are moving!
In 2019 we brought many workshops and events to Medway and Swale including;
- BLINK – Our collaboration with B Arts, Creative Scene, and Vivacity, and created by Emergency Exit Arts . BLINK was part of the Paper Peace project that went on a UK tour which took over Beachfields Park in Sheerness for the finale.
- Sea Folk Sing – Our music project for people aged 55+ which combined local heritage and storytelling with songwriting and folk music. Funded by The Baring Foundation & Arts Council England’s Celebrating Age fund, we worked SparkedEcho CIC bring Sea Folk Sing to venues including Gillingham’s Priestfield Stadium and Sheerness East Working Men’s Club
- MySelf exhibition – an exhibition from The Mess Room, a project from artists Wendy Daws and Christopher Sacre. The sculpture, paintings and collages were created by artists of all ages, from 3 months to 96 years, including a Shed made from stories by students from Danecourt School, Barnsole Primary Trust and All Faiths Children’s Academy. The exhibition, first shown at Sun Pier House in Chatham, was shown at No.34, Phoenix House Community Centre and Sittingbourne Library and was seen by over 10,000 people in Swale.
No.34 in Sittingbourne High Street has been our offices and event space since 2015, and before that, we were based at Creek Creative in Faversham.
Not only has No.34 been our office but we’ve hosted many of exhibitions from Swale and Medway artists, events and workshops as well as being used for meetings and by other community organisations.
But this year, we’re are starting the new decade by moving our offices to Gillingham.
Ideas Test Director Lucy Medhurst said;
“We have had a brilliant time working in Sittingbourne but now it’s time to work in new more agile ways as we bring you the next 3 years of an exciting programme for Swale & Medway.”
From early February, Ideas Test will be based at offices in Kingsley House, a community hub near Gillingham railway station.
“We will still be working in Sittingbourne and on Sheppey as well as across Medway, but with our community partners and in community centres, libraries, and other surprising places rather than in one fixed location.
We can’t do what we do without our consortium partners at Swale CVS and Sheppey Matters and in Medway, plus artists, supporters, community champions, volunteers and especially all those people in Swale and Medway who come along and take part.
We are hugely grateful for the continued support of Kent County Council, Swale Borough Council and our funders Arts Council England, and all those that support us.”
Our move means that the Ideas Test team can bring art and creativity to more places and to more people.
