Threads aims to increase recognition of artist-led activity in East Kent. Five artists will be occupying Ideas Test for a day to create, explore and develop their artistic practice. You are invited to visit throughout the day (11am-4pm) to see their progress and to talk about the work.
Threads will also hold an open critique on the same day (from 6pm to 7.30pm). If you are an artist or creative you can bring your own work, work in progress or ideas to discuss in a peer-to-peer format. You are very welcome to take part or just to listen. The residency artists will also discuss the work that they have been exploring during the day with the group.
Is there anything else that will help us build an audience for this work? We value any community networks you may have, these maybe links with schools, sports, voluntary groups etc. We aim to engage people who may not consider themselves to be “arts attendees” so please think outside the box about ways we can share your work with more people together.
Threads received over two hundred applications from across the world and selected forty-eight artists to take part in paid residencies across east Kent throughout 2018. Threads made the selection with the help of a panel and based the decision on energy and experimentation as opposed to a CV or list of exhibitions.
Threads open crits are a great place to meet others making work, an inspiring place to realise new work and new ways to approach making.
