Material Conversations by Matt Bray & Wendy Daws
March 3 @ 11:00 am - April 30 @ 2:00 pmFree
Kent artists Matt Bray and Wendy Daws will be coming together to create an exploratory work of art live at Ideas Test in Sittingbourne High Street as part of a project called Material Conversations.
The artists will be using latex to create a three-dimensional textured drawing that will then hang in the window for the duration of the exhibition.
The idea for the piece is a return to something Wendy Daws began exploring during her degree, which will now be reimagined as a two-way conversation between the artists who have very different art styles. The collaboration is part of a series that Matt Bray has embarked upon to challenge his own practice, and through a conversation with the artists, curator Jane Pitt and assistant producer, Daisy Orton, the idea of making the work in situ emerged.
Matt Bray is an artist and curator whose work explores the relationship between two parallel dichotomies; the subject / object divide as it pertains to consciousness, and abstraction / figuration within painting. Currently, as a way of expanding his practice to include new mediums he has begun a series of experimental collaborations with other artists.
Wendy Daws is an artist and creative practitioner based in Medway. She has always been fascinated by different materials, what they can do, and how they can be used in interesting ways. Wendy is well known for her inspiring and highly creative participatory work with marginalised groups, notably visually impaired and older people.
