In Celebration of Black History Month – A UK History of Black Musicians throughout the Ages

30th September 2017 @ 10:30 am - 1:00 pm

Free

Black Musicians have contributed to British cultural life since the Roman period and to launch October’s Black History Month we are looking at Black UK musicians through the ages and their influence on music today!

The earliest known musician is John Blanke (1501–1511) a black trumpeter living in Tudor England, who was a member of the royal tournament but there have been many more like Ignatius Sancho, George Bridgewater, Samuel Coleridge Taylor, Sade and Ms Dynamite.

Drop in to No.34 on Saturday 30 September between 10.30am to 1pm to join the Diversity House team as they take us on a journey of ‘sight and sound’. Using the music of the ‘little known’ and ‘well known’ musicians of the past, we piece together a compilation of the black musicians who made a difference to British music as we know it today.
