One of our very first funded projects was instigated by Community Catalyst, Margherita Gramegna, and took place during the autumn and winter of 2013.
This event was about involving the public in a creative consultation, to better understand their needs and priorities regarding their ‘dream’ cinematic experience. In terms of the process, the public / audience was invited to go on a tour exploring the boards showing 51zero’s vision and intentions for the coming festival. They then had the chance to express their own opinions via an interactive ‘Design your own film festival’ workshop. Additionally they participated in audio documentation and became part of a brand new artwork – the events’ soundscape.
Two events were originally proposed, one in Medway and one in Swale, but due to strategic event design and budgeting, six events were delivered in total, reaching a wider number of different groups.
An example of the groups reached includes: LGBT; Young Mothers and children; Walking group; Asian women; Modern Foreign Languages group; Young actors; students; artists and creative businesses and more.
Many artists were involved, including Jane Pitt and Mark Barnes, along with non-arts community collaborators such as Medway Libraries, The Tavern Inn in Strood and Crow Lane Baptist Church.
The 51st Zero Festival for 2014 takes place between 10-12 October. Details will appear on the website in due course: www.51zero.org
